When creating my website, I decided to follow a convention of a website by making a press release. My idea was to promote a famous author for inspiration of a reading competition in my school. I decided to use Jacqueline Wilson who is a famous children's writer. This will attract my target audience by being for parents and students because the children in my school will be excited to have this experience and their parents will be encouraging to their children, especially if they love reading or are hoping to be future writers etc... This will also promote the school to be successful and imaginative to the audience.

Draft of website,
When creating my final product, I made a plan just so the final idea looks professional and successful for a school website. I changed most of the layout to make my website look unique and professional. I have followed certain conventions of a website so mine will look successful, as well as not following some conventions to make my website look unique. This is only my drafted website because I still have to use Photoshop to make my images fit for my school as well as link my navigation bar to each page.

own images
Here are examples of my own images I have taken of students in my own time to add onto my website. The first image consists of ideal images I have taken that could of gone on my website, this was a plan. The second image is showing how my original images have been used on my website, this is for the hyperlink 'Gallery.'

Planning for website
Before making the website, I noted down a plan on what I wanted on my website, including lines for a welcoming paragraph and what my school is about. This was to get my own understanding on my school so I could create a website based on my ideas.
Image ideas
For my website, I looked at different image which I could include in my own website, these are a few images that would make my website look for a school or college.
I have chosen to use images of school children, which I took myself, to show the website is for a school. These images were just first hand drafts which I further looked at when making my website.
I also drafted some notes on what images to use in my website, which I further looked at when making my website. These image ideas are important because they identify to my target audience what my school is about and what it is offering to the students. Using different images makes my school look individual to others.

The Social groups for this school website
is parents/students, teachers, this is shown by the GCSE results being
presented. This is trying to show parents that St Mary’s Catholic College is a good
School, where students achieve the best of their Ability. There is also images of children working
independently, this refers back to my point by the Niche audience being for
parents. If students are working quietly and independently, it shows the target
audience that the school is full of discipline and respect and therefore
parents will want to send their children to this school for that reason. The Niche audience, students and
teachers, will appear to this website because the school is presented as a good school, which has
good education system as well as discipline to make sure the students do as well as they can. This
will appear to them because students will want to go to this school as well as teachers may want
their kids to obtain or even work there.
For my evaluation, I had to interpret the different social groups and the niche market for my website, I did this so i knew exactly who my audience is and what the requirements are for my website to attract the appropriate target audience.

For my logo, I have a slogan 'Protect, Advise, Encourage.' This is to promote my school to not only be successful but to show the parents that each student is encouraged to succeed their potential. I decided to try out different fonts for my slogan, this is for extra research and the multiple options helped me further to pick which one I would use on my logo. The font was important because it would be on my logo, which would be on the website and on the students school uniforms and therefore needs to look professional. I finally chose my font to be Calibri because I believed it looked professional and recognisable.
Welcoming paragraph- school website
My website-
Welcoming paragraph
St Bernadette’s Catholic Academy is an outstanding secondary
school including a sixth form college for those that would like to stay on to
further their education. St Bernadette’s includes high quality teaching and support
delivered by a dedicated and well-informed staff. Our school system has
honoured the importance of our students education and with each child’s effort
and ability, have achieved 90% pass rate A*-C for five years now. Our local
school is a global welcoming school not just for children living in the Wirral,
and so fluent languages will be available as GCSE and A level options as well
as years 7-9 having regular lessons. The sixth form is just as successful in
results as the lower school and they gain excellent results of three A*-C’s in
their three A level options. Our exceptional reputation is built by both the
students and staff’s effort with one on other to obtain the children’s high
levels of education and skills.
School isn’t just about the results, it’s about meeting new
people and learning to cope in different environments and so we expect high
standards of behaviour and mutual respect to peers and all staff.
This is the welcoming paragraph which is on my school website. I have produced a welcoming message so the audience feel comfortable on the website as well as sending their children to my school. The welcoming paragraph is a convention of a school website, from my research I found the basic needs for a school/college website so mine will look professional. The website I found the requirements of a school website on is- DFE website requirements. The intention of my paragraph is to show the audience how successful my school is so they believe St Bernadette's Catholic Academy will bring out the best in their children. My other intentions, like i pointed out welcoming message, was to show the audience that the school isn't just a strict Catholic school, it is still sociable. I have mentioned in my welcoming message that the school is a global and so people all around the world can learn here and also the school specialises in languages so each student is encouraged to learn a fluent language.
Logo research
This is my research for other school/college logos which helped me with my final design. From Pensby High school and St Mary's Catholic College, I used the crown idea as well as the shield shape. I used this shape because its a convention of a school logo and it is recognisable to the audience. I used the crown figure because it represents the school as best as possible, making the school look successful.
I annotated the logo's to give me further knowledge on how to do my logo as well as interpret the meaning behind the colour scheme, the figures, the slogan etc...
press release
Head teacher’s letter
St Bernadette’s Catholic Academy has been successful with
GCSE and A level results for so many years, we have lost count.
St Bernadette’s Catholic Academy is celebrating amazing KS4 and
KS5 results once again, 85% of students have a pass rate of A*-C in at least
five of their subjects at GCSE, and three in A level. This outstanding Catholic
school has the highest pass rate in the Wirral and is in the leader board for
the top ten schools in the United Kingdom; thanks to our respectful students
and their high abilities. We welcome you
to our exceptional academy, we guarantee our students do achieve academic
success, but we also expect and encourage all students to be involved in the
wider life of the school. We hope you feel confident enough to attend St
Bernadette Catholic Academy in September, best of luck,
-Bethan Hakesley, Head teacher.
This is my press release for my website, the idea of this is to promote my school as well as give the audience information on the school from the head teachers point of view. I used synergy to keep up with the ethos i'm trying to create, by presenting my school as successful as possible.

School logo evaluation
After interpreting other school or college logo's, I created my on logo for my school; St Bernadette's Catholic Academy. The colour scheme consist of yellow, orange and red. Each colour identifies the personality of my school as well as the staff and the students. The orange colour represents power and creativity, the yellow represents happiness and energy and finally the red represents power and indulgence, which are al important for the parents of the new children joining to acknowledge. I have used a regular shield shape for my logo because it is a convention and makes the logo look more recognisable for the audience. The crown on my logo has been used to create a sense of aspiration for the parents and make them realise St Bernadette's academic success, I though the crown would represent the school in the best way possible. I have decided to use a slogan on my logo, which also interprets what the schools about as well as how the staff and students work together. The 'protect' makes the parents feel safe letting their children attend this high school, the 'advise' and 'encourage' show both the parents and the new students attending that all staff care for the children and will lead them to their goals and help them achieve the best they can. The slogan also stands out, making the school look successful and also makes St Bernadette's education look high.
